The Card Game

He had remembered Jasmine's name. But he hadn't gotten a hold of the two other persons names. Odette and Dimitri. So that was it.

Sinbad looked in Fagin's direction. He was still unconcious on the floor.
"Do you remember Fagin?" he asked concerned.

"Fagin?"

The name rang a bell, but she couldn't remember

"No, I don't"

So she didn't remember. Maybe it was best that way.

"Hmm, okay... he's lying on the floor over there," he said as he pointed at Fagin. "But he's unconcious now, so there is nothing to be afraid of. Just stay away from him."

"Oh ok, I'm sure he didn't do anything wrong, he must just be sleeping"

Ariel turned to Sinbad

"So how did you sleep last night then?" she asked

He grabbed her hand and looked her in the eyes.
"No, just stay away from him. As far away as you can. You hear me?"

"Ok, ok I promise to stay away from him. God" Ariel giggled

a slight pain went through Ariel's side

"Oh ow, maybe I should just stop moving....."

"Are you alright then? I remember you hurt your hand"

"Good," he said relieved.
"I think I strained my right elbow. And most of my body is sore. It's worst in the neck. But I'm sure it just need a little time, and then it'll be all good," he said with a little smile a show that he meant it.
He didn't know much about it, but he was pretty sure that a broken rib was worse. He remembered Dimitri saying something about the possibility of destroying an organ or something.

"How much can you remember since we were trapped in this basement?"

"Uuuuh, I remember picking my card, talking to Kida about me and her, I don't even know what is happening with that now. And that is pretty much it, being in here has made me forget alot of thing actually, like my girlfriend? The dead one?"

Ariel had forgotten Kayley

"What was her name?"

"I believe her name was Kayley."
He moved closer and gently pushed her hair away from her forehead.
"You must have hurt your head pretty bad," he said worried.

"Oh well, as long as I remember my name......which is?" she stopped

"uuuh"

"Oh god, you have to be kidding me," he exclaimed shocked. He took a deep breath and calmed down a bit.
"Ariel. Your name's Ariel."
He looked at her for a while.
"So you remember the card, Kida, Dimitri, Odette and Jasmine. What else do you remember?"

"Ariel? It is starting to ring a bell. Well is a nice name"

"Oh yeah I know who you are, your Sinbad. I also remember....FAGIN TOUCHED ME, THEN WE GOT INTO A MASSIVE FIGHT"

Ariel blurted out

"Yeah, it sure is a nice name," he said with a smile.
He was glad to hear that she remembered him.
He was shocked by Ariel's sudden outburst.
"It's alright. He's not gonna touch you again. I promise. It's over now."
- But at least that must mean that she is getting some of her memories back. That must be a good sign, he thought to himself.

"I only tried to be nice to him, but then he touched me. Why did he touch me? And...and he hurt you and me"

The rage started to get strong inside Ariel's body

"I AM GOING TO FUCKING KILL HIM"

She tried to stand up but fell over

"Don't stand up, Ariel," he exclaimed, but it was too late.
"You can't move yet. You'll just make your rib worse," he said worried.

"YEAH I THINK I REALIZED THAT SINBAD, THANK YOU VERY MUCH" Ariel yelled

"I JUST WANT TO KILL HIM"

He grabbed her around the arms, trying not to do any damage to her ribs.
"Calm down Ariel. I can't let you kill somebody. Not even him."

"WHY? Because I'm a child, is that it? I am old enough to do what I want you know, I'm 16"

sudden sharp pain in Ariel's rib

"AAAAAHHHHH" Ariel screamed out in pain

"You can do what you want, just think about it first. If you kill him, you will have to live with that for the rest of your life. And that's a horrible feeling." He hadn't realized he'd started yelling.
But he snapped out of it when she screamed.
"Just lie here on my lap, and calm down before you do anything."

She layed down on Sinbad's lap

"God I hate this place, its so dark and gloomy and shit"

Sinbad stroked Ariel's rib

"I'm sorry I got angry, I never normally get like that"

"I can understand why you'd be angry. So am I. But there is no point in ruining your own life with the guilt of killing someone."
A single tear ran down his cheek.
"I wouldn't want you to go through something like that."

"Sinbad? Have you killed someone?" Ariel asked

Sinbad froze when he heard her question.
"Uhm... well... I..." he said, looked down at the floor.
"I didn't mean to kill him," he whispered.

"What happened Sinbad?"

Ariel snuggled into Sinbad's arms and listened

"Well, it was a long time ago. About 10 years. I had run away from home, I hid in a tree in the forrest behind our house. My brother, Tobias, followed me, and he found me. He tried to convince me to come down, but I refused. So he climbed up the tree and tried talking some sense into my head.
Then after a long talk he told me it was about time to go home. On my way down I lost balance and..."
He stopped.
"No... That's not true."
That was the story he had told everyone else. He had almost started to believe it. He wanted to believe that is what happened.
"He told me it was about time to go home. But I tried to push him away, and we both lost balance..."
He stopped for a while to remember how it happened.
"I think he got hold of a branch or something. And he grabbed my arm. He helped me to get foothold on a branch below. And yet... as soon as he let go off me, I... I told him to go to hell and pushed him again. And... well... he fell down and... died."

Dimitri wrote:

He turned around, a bit embarassed. 'Just a bit.. but I'm hoping I'll actually get my shirt back unlike my coat.. you ok?'

'You're too kind, you know that right?' she said and laughed softly.

Odette stared at the floor for a moment, ignoring his question for now. Instead she stood up and walked over to where Dimitri sat. She gently grabbed his hand and pulled him up, leading him back to the corner of the room and sitting down. She didn't want to talk in front of Ariel and Sinbad and disturb them while they were having their own private conversation.

Odette sat close to Dimitri, placing her arms around his waist and her head on his chest, in hopes of keeping him at least a little bit warmer.

'I was just thinking ..' she paused, wondering if now was the right time to tell him the things she had kept locked away for all these years. She took a deep breath, finally deciding to speak. Knowing they may never get another chance like this and that sooner or later they'd be ripped apart once again.

'.. you know, all those things that we .. that I was never able to tell you when we were teenagers .. because you got arrested and I ran away .. we were never able to escape together like we planned .. and there were so many things .. because of all the times you helped me .. rescued me .. saw me as something more than just a waste of space .. good for something more than just a plaything .. I was going to tell you ..' she knew she was babbling, but she couldn't help it. She just couldn't seem to find the right words to say to him, 'but now that I'm .. that I've proven my father right .. sleeping with all those guys .. for money .. hating myself .. and you for all those years .. because of that night .. I don't .. I don't deserve to feel this way about anyone .. especially you ..' she stopped, catching her breath as she felt the familiar sting at her eyes as the tears began falling down her cheeks.

I was actually planning on letting you all know in a video, that the story he told Aurora was a lie. But when Ariel asked, I really didn't feel like lying to her. She is way too cute for that xD
I just hope she takes it well so I won't regret it xD }

Ariel looked sad

"Don't blame yourself Sinbad, it wasn't your fault"

Ariel didn't know what to say, she had never though about it before,

but she knew she could never tell Sinbad she had killed someone before, by accident.

A sad laugh crossed his lips when he thought about it.
"It was a long time ago... But anyway, what I wanted to say was..."
What was it? What were they talking about? Oh yeah...
"Don't do anything before you calm down. Think it over first, okay?"

"Ok Sinbad, but what you don't know is....is.....is that..."

She couldn't say it


"is....that....I"

"That you...? What is it? You can tell me."

"No I can't, its horrible, you wouldn't want to know"

Ariel turned away, her back to Sinbad

"Just leave me alone"

Sinbad sighed.
"It's alright if you don't want to tell me... If you ever feel like talking about it, I'll listen."
He bended over her and kissed her cheek.
"But I'm not leaving you alone."

"You should, I'm a monster..."

Ariel put her head in her hands and started crying

"I find that really hard to believe," he said in a kind voice.
- I wonder what it is she's been through.
He laid down behind her. He supported himself with his left arm as he placed his right arm on her arm. Without moving the arm further, he caressed her without saying anymore. He didn't know what to say.

"But its true, I am a monster"


Ariel rubbed her leg, where her tail used to be, all that was left were skin coloured scales

"These are scales Sinbad, you can probably guess what I was..."

She sat curled in a ball

"I killed someone, to become a human Sinbad. I killed a little girl, she had the power but wouldn't give it to me, so I killed her..."

"Uhm... you what?" he exclaimed.
He sat up and stared at her with a shocked expression on his face.
- What did she just say? No, that can't be....

"I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to say..."

"Oh come on, I haven't always been a human Sinbad, until a year ago I was a.....a.....a mermaid" she whispered

"A mermaid?"
- No, that can't be true. Such things don't exist. They are just old stories. They are not real.
"You're kidding........ right?" he whispered with a hint a desperation in his voice.
She didn't look like she was kidding, but it couldn't be.

"Nope not kidding, thats right Sinbad you fucked a fish. And that there is why I am a monster, happy now. I am evil and a fish"

He kept staring at her for a while.
Then he started laughing nervously.
"A mermaid... I fucked a mermaid..."
He moved his hand to his head. Trying to feel a big bump somewhere. He was sure there was one... somewhere. Because he had clearly hurt his head. No, there was nothing. His head was fine. But she.. Yes, that was it. He stopped laughing, calmed down. It all made sense now.
He moved closer to her.
"It's alright."
- You just need some time to come to your senses after the fall, he thought to himself.

"You shouldn't be near me Sinbad, you might get a fish disease."

"Does that make you think differently about me?" she asked

"Naw, don't worry. I'm sure I'm gonna be fine. Fish is supposed to be good for you," he joked.
He moved even closer so he could brush her hair behind her ear. He looked her in the eyes.
"No... No, it doesn't," he said with a gentle smile.
- Hopefully you'll return to normal again. But if you believe you are a mermaid, then I'm sure we can work that out as well, he thought to himself.
He was sure it was just because she had hurt her head. But she seemed fine, apart from the mermaid-thing.

"I'm not crazy you know, I was, I have scales on my leg, look"

she showed Sinbad the scales, they were fish scales

"I am not crazy, NOW WILL YOU STOP FUCKING TOUCHING ME"

Now I have to try and not break any hearts, including Dimitri's... which is difficult in the circumstances xD

'I'm really not... you helped out just as much as me.' Dimitri brought his knees up to his chest, trying to keep warm. 'Its the most I can do to try and at least make a bad situation a little bit better....'

He noticed that Odette had ignored his question, but before he could pry any further she came over, bringing him over to the other corner of the room. He sat down next to her, looking curiously in her direction.

She brought herself closer and he couldn't help but feel the familar waves of emotions he had felt when he was younger. He subconsiously stroked her hair as she rested her head against his. He remembered Jane, and felt a pang of guilt, but for now he was caught up in the past and what could have been.

Odette began to speak, slowly becoming more and more upset, but as she did he only felt more confused... he tried to comprehend excatly what she was telling him... He moved so she could no longer rest her head on him, instead looking directly at her. He wiped away her tears. 'What are you trying to say?' he said anxiously.

He removed his hand as He closely looked at her legs. It couldn't be...
Was this a dream? No. The pain was real, so this wasn't a dream.
He kept staring at her. This was so surreal.

"Yeah and you thought I was crazy didn't you"

He nodded slowly, without removing his eyes from her.
"You have... scales... on your legs" he whispered.
