A Spider's End and A Possible Beginning

"What do you mean?" he said jokingly. But then he got a bit more serious.
"Uhm... to be honest...."
He looked at the bread as he broke it in half and gave one half to her.
"... I'm not really sure."

She stuck her tongue out at him with his first answer.

She took her piece of bread and nodded her head in thanks. "We're past the "friends stage", I know that." She said, using her fingers to make quotation marks around "friends stage".

"We're not officially divorced until we actually go to the courthouse, but technically you're still with Ariel and I'm..." She trailed off.

"...I really don't think I'm with anyone..." She said, quietly.

John didn't love her... That was obvious...

He nodded slightly and took a bite of his bread as he listened to her.
He stopped and stared at her for a while when she trailed off. For some reason it hurt him to see her like that.
"I-... I'm sure that there is someone for you..." he started.
He wasn't really sure what to say. So he decided that for now he'd just comment on some of the other things, where he actually had something to add.
"... but I'm pretty sure me and Ariel are over... Lately it has just been a mess, and it doesn't seem to get any better... So... yeah..."
He wasn't sure what else to say, so he took another bite to occupy his mouth.

She nodded and leaned her head on his shoulder.

"...I'm sorry that its been a mess..." She said, softly.

She took a bite of her bread.

Why did a place like this have to be what finally brought Sinbad and her together as friends, or whatever they were?

He smiled a little as he finished another bite.
"I guess it just wasn't meant to be..." he said, but a part of him still hoped he was wrong.
He took another bite of his bread. He didn't know what to say. If he could just give her an answer as to what they were.... But he didn't know what they were. He wasn't even sure what he wanted them to be.

Cinderella looked up at him and smiled. "Let's not worry about it too much right now. Whatever will be, will be, right?"

Sinbad returned her smile. "Yeah, that sounds like a plan."
He moved his hand next to hers and slowly slid his fingers between hers.
"It's not like we have to hurry with anything," he said and gave her hand a light squeeze.

Her smile grew as she gave his hand a gentle squeeze back. "Right."

She placed her head back on his shoulder, smiling.

He put the last piece of bread in his mouth.
He rested his head on hers as he looked down on their hands. He caressed her hand with his thumb.
It was weird thinking about all the time they had wasted by hating eachother. He wondered if they could have been like this all the time, if they had just forgotten about the past sooner.

Cinderella let out a happy sigh. If she could, she would stay like this.

She looked at their hands and her thumb played with his for a little bit.

She snuggled closer to him and closed her eyes.

Sleep came easy for her that night.

For a long while Sinbad just sat and enjoyed the moment. It felt nice just being like that.
Suddenly he realized that she had fallen asleep. He lifted his head slightly and looked at her.
She looked so peaceful when she slept.
He rested his head on hers again, closed his eyes and soon after he had also fallen asleep.
