He looked at the suitcase in his hand. Up until that moment he had hidden it in room 6, where no one would be able to open it. Where no one would even bother to try. When they were locked up, isolated in a room, a mysterious suitcase was probably the least of their worried.
It had been so long since he had held it. So long since he had looked at it's content. Such painful memories lied inside it, yet he was unable to get rid of it. Not yet. He wasn't ready to let go.
It was painful, just holding it in his hands. Looking at it, as if he could see through it. See what was inside. But he didn't have to see, he knew. He knew all too well.
Why couldn't he get rid of it? Why couldn't he just burn it's content? Why couldn't he just get rid of it?
It haunted him. Caused him pain. He didn't ever want to see it, specially not touch it. And yet, he couldn't keep from doing so.
He laid it down in the shallow, dirty whole he had dug behind the big maple tree in the garden.
No one would find it here. It was in a blindspot right after a corner of the building. Not even his cameras could see here, because no one ever went here. It was just a boring spot with nothing but the shadow of either the tree or the building.
He roughly covered it with dirt, but didn't bother to make it neat. Anyone could tell someone had been digging, but for anyone to know they would have to come to that deserted corner, and who would ever do that?
He sat down beside the pile of dirt and looked up at the moon. It was a full moon that night. It was beautiful. Bigger than he had ever seen the moon before. He usually enjoyed these wonders of nature to the fullest, but that night he couldn't help but feel a sad bitterness in the pit of his stomach.
He was damned for what he had done back then. He knew it. Damned till the end of time. He knew, they knew...
The moon knew too. It felt as if it was mocking him.
He had had enough. He finally got to his feet and headed for the door. Cinderella had slept like a stone when he had left. Hopefully, she was still asleep.
He opened the door to his room quietly. She was fast asleep, in her own imaginary, naive, childish world. Good.
At least she wouldn't judge him as well... at least not until the morning came...
