A Different Child

"You're different indeed," he said amused and laughed slightly.
"In a good way though."
He looked towards the little child and smiled. She had always been different. Unlike them. Unlike everyone. He admired her for that.

Lilo giggled. "Really?"
She smiled back. For a short moment she hesitated, but then she touched his face. Careful.

"In all honesty, I admire you," he said and looked to the sky once again.
"You are so young, yet you are more mature than any adult I have ever seen."

Lilo looked down on her hands. She felt uncomfortable.
"I don't think I'm mature. I... I had just a different "Daddy". I was shocked after my first kill. It's like... Something inside me is lost?"

"Nahh, I think something inside you is gained."
He didn't look at her, but in all honesty, he wanted to be like her. Wanted to be able to push all the bad things aside, wanted to be able to clear his mind and think of other things than pain. He wanted to be her. He was jealous, he knew it, but he couldn't help himself.

"You mean... Feeling nothing is good?"
Lilo shivered.
"I don't know... I think I'm just self-protecting me..."

He looked at her confused. Of course it was, couldn't she see that?
"Better than feeling pain, isn't it?"

Lilo thought.
"I guess you're right. Can I ask you something?"

"Sure," he said and smiled genuinly towards her.

"Why do you want to feel nothing?"

He smiled again. Anyone else would have asked something like:
Why am I here?
Why are you doing this?
Who are you?
What have I done?
Please let me go?

No, not Lilo, she was different. Though, when the question sank in his smile quickly disappeared and he looked away from her once again.
"As I said.." he said quietly. "Better than feeling pain, isn't it?" He sighed.

Lilo sighed. What happened to this man? He fascinates her.
"You can learn to ignore it. Like me."
She looked around. The garden was nice and colorful. But it doesn't seem to bring joy.
"What do you think of blood?"

"Fun to shed, a nightmare to clean up," he said and smiled slightly.
"Hey, Lilo, what would you say if I told you I needed you to do something..?"

Lilo looked at him surprised.
"I think I'd be really happy. I finally have something to do. It was really boring."

He reached down to the bottom of his pocket and pulled out a tiny bottle of some clear liquid.
"This is enough to paralyze a human completely. They will still be fully conscious, but unable to move. It's not harmful in any way and will wear off after about 20 minutes."
He stopped talking and looked at her, making sure she was following.

Lilo nodded. Not that strong like the poisons she was used to, but still...
"Alright. And what shall I do with the person then?"

"I want you to make her drink it, then get her in the pool within a minute, before the poison starts taking over her body. I want her to drown."
He said it coldly, but calmly, just as casually as if he had just asked her to bring him the newspaper.

Lilo thought and nodded slowly.
"Who is her? Am I allowed to know it?"

"Her name is Esmeralda," he said coldly.

"Okay...", Lilo nodded again. "Thank you. When shall I do it?"

"When do you want to?" he asked with a smirk. Of course Lilo wouldn't try to deny killing someone. This was exactly the reason he liked her so much.

Lilo thought hard about it. Then she gave him a little evil smile.
"Tomorrow. When I awake. I think it will be more fun, when I have rested."
Her thoughts drove away and she smiled happily.

"As you wish," he smiled and handed her the fragile glass bottle to her.

Lilo took the glass bottle careful out of his hand. She looked at it and then to the villain.
"Can I stay here till tomorrow?"

"If you want, I see no reason as to why not," he smiled and got up.
"But as for me, I must head back now."

Lilo's smile disappeared.
"Why?"
Then she closed her eyes.
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have asked that.", she mumbled.

"Because I have games to play, just like you," he said casually and smiled gently and effortlessly.

"Will you come again and play with me?"
Lilo gave him a real smile. She really loved his games.
"Can't wait to meet her. Uhm... How do I come to the pool?"

"I'll make sure you wake up there," he smiled.
"And how can I not come play with my favorite child? This won't be the last time you see me."

Lilo nodded.
"I really hope so! Sometimes... Sometimes I think all the roommates you send to me are dying? It's really boring sitting all alone in a room... But when you come back to me, I can wait."
Lilo smiled and pressed the bottle at her heart.
"Till you come and we can play again."

Till our last game.

He nodded and smiled, but was too tired to answer her. Instead, he went back inside and locked the door behind him.

Lilo watched him, leaving her. She sighed. Alone again. Her glance fell on the fragile bottle. A little creepy smile appeared on her face. Well then... To bad for this woman, but fun for her. She stood up and walked around in the garden, just enjoying the flowers. Lilo curled herself up under a tree and closed her eyes.
